August 2016 - Contacts

There is no doubt that good quality links and connections with others can make a very positive difference to both our business and our personal lives.

When Sharon and I got off the boat at Roscoff in Brittany just a week after the Brexit vote we wondered what sort of reception we might get from French people. That Sunday morning we drove from the coast to the small town of Chateaulin where we stopped at a bistro for coffee and croissants; the lady proprietor listened very patiently to our attempts at the French language.

We had already found a promising campsite online within walking distance of the town. All that remained to do that day was check it out, blow up the tent and fire up the barbeque.

But then we remembered the wine. We didn't have any. How can you have a barbeque on the first night of your holiday in France without a glass of red wine? Well you can't really so I rushed back to the bistro, but it was closed. Everything in Chateaulin was closed that Sunday afternoon. Quel horreur!

As I walked disconsolately back to the car I saw the female café proprietor on the other side of the road and rushed across to explain my dilemma. She invited me to follow her into a side street where she knocked up a friend. He disappeared inside for a moment and then produced a bottle of Bordeaux which we duly purchased.

As we were driving away from Chateaulin a few days later there was our helpful lady
standing on the side of the road with her car bonnet up...... Actually this last bit is not true, but if it had been, what else could we have done but stop and help?
